Studies will cover a variety of topics, including conducting, vocal pedagogy, chant, music history, etc. Members will attend rehearsals, observe demonstrations, and hear from conductors and scholars in interactive lectures. The famed King’s, St. John’s, and Trinity College Choirs will be in residence during the course.

Course members will form a choir to sing with eminent conductors. Dr. Barry Rose OBE—formerly at St. Paul’s London, Guildford, and St. Albans cathedrals—will lead members in singing an Evensong service in Ely, while Nigel Short—conductor of Tenebrae—will lead Course participants in a service of Compline in Cambridge.

This year will once again feature small ensemble masterclasses with Voces8 Artistic Director Barnaby Smith. Interested singers will be placed into ensembles to self-rehearse, prepare, and then present to and workshop with Mr. Smith.

We will venture outside Cambridge—to London and Ely. In London, we will visit various choral highlights, including a couple surprises on which we are currently working. In Ely, we will sing Evensong in the magnificent cathedral.

The course will conclude with a banquet—in Cambridge called “Formal Hall.” Enter into the life of Cambridge fellows and students to participate in this venerable tradition.
